Do you have the same fond memories of camp that I do? I think back and I long for those carefree, action-packed days when swimming in the lake seemed like a reasonable substitute for a shower; when you got that first taste of freedom from parental watch; when you were so excited to be able to get-up on waterskis for the first time, or; when you learned how to rig a sailboat. Did you have your first kiss at overnight camp? Was it your first time on horseback? My oldest son is going away to overnight camp this summer (when did he get that old?!), and I miss him just thinking about it! But at the same time, I am SO excited for him! He's going to have so many new experiences (probably homesickness will be among them), and summer camp is going to enrich his life in so many ways.
I am fortunate to be able to send my children to camp, but I am well aware that many parents can only dream of offering their children a camp experience. No doubt, some parents may not even recognize that far-reaching benefits camp offers children. This is where SCOPE comes in. SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Provide an Edge) is a 19-year-old non-profit organization dedicated to the belieftethat every child, regardless of their socio-economic background deserves the benefits of a summer camp experience.
SCOPE-Midwest will be hosting it's annual fundraising benefit on Friday, April 16th at 7:30 p.m. at Chicago's Sheraton Hotel & Towers. Tickets are still available for this event which will feature, cocktails, dinner, dancing, casino games and a silent auction (with Soben Items!!) .
Please join me in supporting SCOPE-Midwest. Together, we can help underserved and deserving children have the oportunity to escape the struggles they face at home and discover the joy of camp -- a place to feel safe, play, learn, laugh and grow.
