We Love Our Clients! Happy Valentine's Day! Chicago Photographer

Happy Valentine's Day Soben Family! We wanted to use this holiday of hearts and kisses to share some things we love most, and at the top of our list is our amazing client family!  Before we get into the amazing end-of-year slideshow featuring of all the fabulous and adorable faces we got to capture this year created by our leader extraordinaire, Laurie, we thought we'd give you a snippet of us, and some things we L-O-V-E!

Laurie Loves: Valentine's Day is the birthday of Laurie's beloved grandmother (98 this year!), so this day is special in two ways for her.  She loves making Valentine's boxes with her children, strong coffee in the morning, and the ever-elusive jeans that fit right all day without getting looser as the hours go by (AKA the unicorn of all jeans).  She also loves working with Jenn, Ellen and Jenny ...  everyone that we meet through the studio!

Jenn Loves: Jenn loves any and everything homemade, as long as it's not the clothes she's wearing. :) Her family has a big bin of clothing and fabric discards (endless pairs of ripped leggings frequent this box) that her daughters use to make fun, crafty items with, and she loves seeing what they've dreamt up. She also loves fill-in-the-blank notes from her girls, such as, "My mom is the best at ____."  Such sweet and funny notes come from these!  Also, a little dark chocolate is never wrong by Jenn.

Jenny Loves: Dr Pepper!  She knows she should start with something like, "My adorable daughter and newborn son," but honestly, Dr. Pepper comes to mind first.  She also loves dance parties to anything with a strong hip-hop beat and trying to think up more appropriate lyrics when her daughter is asking what they're singing during said dance parties.  She also loves six hours of consecutive sleep from her newborn, hair that is freshly touched up, and books that you can't put down.

Ellen Loves: SLEEPING! She also loves her hazelnut coffee, and Starburst candy... as she should. Because Ellen is just as sweet as those delicious candies!

So, having covered what we love in our own homes, here's what we love at work: YOU!!!

Please enjoy this slideshow of our 2015 moments, we so enjoyed living them with you all and cannot wait for 2016's new ones!

xoxoxoxo Laurie, Jenn, Jenny & Ellen!

Happy Mother's Day!

Laurie and I want to wish all the mothers out there a Happy Mother's Day! If it were up to us, mothers would be celebrated each and every day, and not just on one designated calendar date. Raising Environmental Awareness: Talking to Kids about the Gulf Oil Spill

Like many children, my boys are nature lovers. My garage houses their vast collections of rocks, sticks, pine cones, and leaves - not to mention bugs (now dead). They are budding naturalists - and see no reason why they shouldn't  pee outdoors if that's where they are when the urge hits them. (We're working on this.) Each month, they eagerly await the arrival of their subscription to "My Big Backyard" and "Ranger Rick,"  both published by the National Wildlife Federation. In school, they are each learning about the importance of respecting and protecting our environment. My kindergartner put everything in the recycling bin and is urging us to begin composting. My second grader turns off the shower when he shampoos his hair, and thinks that he should refrain from superfluous handwashing. (His idea of superfluous and mine differ.)

So it is especially difficult when they discover that their precious environment is in peril. The recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has been an upsetting subject for them. As a parent, I am always challenged to discuss current events with my children in a way that is age-appropriate and sensitive, and doesn''t serve to increase their anxieties about the many things in the world that are outside of their control. To that end, I want to share with you a link to help you discuss the gulf oil spill with your children. Ranger Rick Article Hopefully, you will find this to be a useful resource in provoking thoughtful discussion of environmental issues. -- Laura

Happy Holidays

Dear Blog Readers, Thank you so much for following my blog. I love to check the stats, and see that each day I have friends from around the world checking the blog. I wish you all a peaceful holiday season, filled with love, family and friends. Best wishes .... and more to come in 2009!

Jump Shot

Can you tell that I am on a jumping kick? They are just so much fun - maybe it is our new signature. This jump shot post is a special one - dedicated to my studio manager Laurie. I could not do any of this without her. She is not only an amazing friend, but an amazing manager, too. Thank you, Laurie, for an incredible year. For everything you do, and everything you've done. You are the best, and I am so very thankful for your friendship (first and always), your dedication, your help, your time --- simply put - I am thankful for you.

Our suburban urban....

This family has style. When they showed up so perfectly coordinated, I just knew that they were my kind of fun. I had a "kill-er" great time with you guys, and I can't wait to show you the rest of your images!!!

She is... An American Girl.

So we celebrated her birthday downtown with her best friend. We went to the American Girl Place, and had a scrumptous feast with course after course after course.... We OF COURSE had a great time. She had talked about going for months (and this time, it took me a month to get reservations. That Kit movie changed everything!). We had an amazing time. The best part? The day we left, we got a call from the agency. American Girl wanted MY American Girl at their casting on the very next morning. So we got two days of American Girl, and my girl feels complete.

Images shot natural light with a point and shoot and my iphone.

Been a while....

well i've been busy doing things. what kind of things, you ask? i had a baby, and we moved our house. this has been the craziest month ever. though my new daughter is divine, and i love the new home, i don't recommend that any of you try to combine those two events! thankfully, the house is in one piece, and so am i. we may be living out of boxes for months - but i don't care. we are here, and she is here, and that is what matters. i've attached some pictures of our newest addition. tomorrow i hope to post about our day at american girl - but sometimes tomorrows turn into next weeks when it comes to these things - so i beg for patience. regular work life resumes very soon (and i can't wait actually) - which means that regular postings should return as well! thanks for reading, always. thanks.

Finally, an Aunt!

I have waited many years for this day ~ I couldn't wait to hear the words "Aunty Laurie". Well, the day is here. I am proud to introduce my neice. She was born at 3 pounds 10 ounces, and has steadily been gaining weight (I think she is over six pounds now). And if I don't say so myself - she is one of the cutest newborns I've photographed. Without further ado - here she is!! Enjoy, and thanks for looking.
