What to Expect (When you are Expecting):
First of all, we realize that not all women embrace the physical changes of pregnancy! The thought of posing semi-dressed with a bulging pregnancy bump can be unnerving. Trust us – we get it – and we understand first-hand the body changes of pregnancy don’t always feel very beautiful! At Soben Studios, we know how to enhance the beauty of your blossoming belly — and camouflage those areas that cause panic. Maternity portraits are truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: a celebration of a new life and you will be glad you didn’t let the chance pass you by.
Your comfort during your maternity session– both physical and emotional – is a primary concern. We strive to not only capture beautiful moments between you and your partner, but also make the experience enjoyable and comfortable and the results, beyond your imagination.
When should you book?
You are welcome to reserve your session any time after you have established your due date, but you will do find that a time between 32 and 36 weeks is ideal.
General session tips
Maternity sessions are intimate and simple, showcasing your growing belly and beautiful glow.
Please do not wear anything with elastic on your belly for a few hours before your session. The elastic can leave unflattering markings on your belly. Watches and some other jewelry can have this same effect. Don’t forget about your feet! Tight socks can leave marks too; consider wearing flip-flops to your session.
If there is any particular part of your body you want concealed – double chin, upper arms, scars, etc – tell us. It will change the way you are positioned for your portraits.
If you want to use something of the baby’s you are welcome to do so. Some suggestions would be tiny booties or a tiny teddy bear, etc. Pick things that are simple, beautiful, elegant and timeless.
What to Wear: Maternity
We have wraps, dresses and draping fabrics at the studio. Most of the items we have are best used with your own strapless bra and nude panties. Examples of some of our studio fabrics are shown here. If you would like images beyond those using our wardrobe items, the following is a list of wardrobe recommendations (which may vary depending on the types of images you envision).
We love the full range of options that are available for today’s mother-to-be: open and flowing or crisp and modern. Embrace looks that show your belly, and give it the definition it deserves. Try a tank, camisole ora long flowy sweater that opens just above your belly bump. You can’t go wrong with jeans and a t-shirt or tank - but look for options that include a Lycra bend so that they remain crisp and form flattering. For jeans and pants, try for “under the belly” - it doesn’t matter if you can snap them or not, an open snap will show far better than a large maternity panel. You are also welcome to wear our dresses and wraps.
There is something lovely about just a plain, simple, button down...classic yet a bit intimate if unbuttoned, especially if it belongs to your partner. And should you feel especially radiant, investigate options for maternity lingerie!
